This pair of fabulous gate houses were a one time the entrance to Esher Place, and nestled behind the green but in front of the river is Waynefleet Tower. At this point in the buildings past it was managed by the Surrey Education Committee.
In John Rocque’s map of 1762 you can see Lower Green’s More Lane, Lower Green Road, the River Mole and the River Ember. A prominent feature on the map is the Esher Wire Mill, off Mill Lane. Also visible is an orchard and cottages.
